More fun

This Thursday night the Port A Rockers played at Bernie's once again. The joint was packed with dancers. By 8:30 it had emptied out a bit and there were only boomers left. The band is good about keeping the music quiet. You can hear what they are singing and we could talk with each other while dancing. Today, we can hear each other because we aren't any deafer.
It was really fun, we all have white hair but young hearts.

Shopping Week

This has been a busy week of shopping in Corpus Christi and having fun in bars. On Tuesday I went with Merna, Anita and Deb to Corpus to shop for the table decorations for the park fashion show. We had a lot of fun. Got some great flip flops and tops at Academy. Can't remember what else. That must have been the highlight.

On Wednesday, we went to CC with Roger and Beverly. Once again, Academy was the best stop. Paul got some very cool shirts. Big sales as always. We ate at Bubba's Ice House. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, yes it is the best in town.

Thursday, I had my hair done by Heidi. The color is perfect. Paul loves it, just the same color as when I was so much younger. Nice style and cut too, better before I got caught in the rain. Then we all went dancing. See previous blog.

On Friday Beverly drove Mary Ann and I to CC for more shopping. We did good and didn't get lost and she parks that long truck very nicely!! I would say that this time Cavender's Boot Store was the highlight. We all want cowboy boots and that was the start of our search. Mary Ann found some she likes, Deb found a pair of bright colored cowboy rain boots, with roses and skulls on them, for riding the motorcycle. They are perfect for her. I didn't find anything that fit, but it is a good start. This started when we saw this girl in the bar in a sundress and boots. (A common enough look down here, quite charming actually.) She had just gotten them for her 25th birthday. They were the perfect boots. I should have just gone over there and found out the maker and where she got them. Oh well. The search is on. We also went to Jasons Deli and the store next door that has all the jewelry making supplies, and jewelry of course! Then we found some stuff at Cato's and Bealls.

Dinner at the Castaway's

L to right: Gary, Carol, Kevin our waiter, Eileen, Marjie and Mavis.

Marjie and Mavis.

Mavis had a freezer full of fish from all her fishing friends here at the park, and we were lucky enough to be invited to her fish fry at the Castaway's here in Port Aransas. Several restaurants here will cook your fish and provide the side dishes for a small fee. In the past we had eaten at this restaurant and were not impressed and did not return. However, they did a wonderful job with the fish and the sides were excellent. We had fries, coleslaw, and rolls, and melted butter to drizzle on the fish and hush puppies. We had a great time, and stuffed outselves.

Then we went to the Gaff for a beer, saw Kip and Heidi. She started working at the Hair Port today. Yay! I can get my hair done easy, any time, and she is a color expert. That gray doesn't just wash away, you know! Then Rick and Shirlene found us with their bar radar. Then the funniest thing happened, and I know it won't translate well to the blog. Go have 4 or 5 beers and then read this. That will help.

In case you don't know, Mavis is a wonderful, fun and funny friend of ours here in Pioneer park. She is single and looking! She and Shirlene were sitting in front of the slots and we were at the bar, just across (I have pics but am sure that Mavis and Shirlene would find some sneaky way to kill me if I post them). The Gaff is a very old bar, perhaps a chicken coop in a former life, low ceilings. Two very tall men walk past us, basketball players tall. Mavis said "wow, their heads almost hit the ceiling", Shirlene says "check out their feet!" We are laughing immoderately as this is a long standing joke among us. Then one of the men taps his foot and does a very good impression of a horse neigh. More laughter. They ordered beer and drink box with a straw for the tiny woman that was with them. They must have heard that one before.
