Dinner at the Castaway's

L to right: Gary, Carol, Kevin our waiter, Eileen, Marjie and Mavis.

Marjie and Mavis.

Mavis had a freezer full of fish from all her fishing friends here at the park, and we were lucky enough to be invited to her fish fry at the Castaway's here in Port Aransas. Several restaurants here will cook your fish and provide the side dishes for a small fee. In the past we had eaten at this restaurant and were not impressed and did not return. However, they did a wonderful job with the fish and the sides were excellent. We had fries, coleslaw, and rolls, and melted butter to drizzle on the fish and hush puppies. We had a great time, and stuffed outselves.

Then we went to the Gaff for a beer, saw Kip and Heidi. She started working at the Hair Port today. Yay! I can get my hair done easy, any time, and she is a color expert. That gray doesn't just wash away, you know! Then Rick and Shirlene found us with their bar radar. Then the funniest thing happened, and I know it won't translate well to the blog. Go have 4 or 5 beers and then read this. That will help.

In case you don't know, Mavis is a wonderful, fun and funny friend of ours here in Pioneer park. She is single and looking! She and Shirlene were sitting in front of the slots and we were at the bar, just across (I have pics but am sure that Mavis and Shirlene would find some sneaky way to kill me if I post them). The Gaff is a very old bar, perhaps a chicken coop in a former life, low ceilings. Two very tall men walk past us, basketball players tall. Mavis said "wow, their heads almost hit the ceiling", Shirlene says "check out their feet!" We are laughing immoderately as this is a long standing joke among us. Then one of the men taps his foot and does a very good impression of a horse neigh. More laughter. They ordered beer and drink box with a straw for the tiny woman that was with them. They must have heard that one before.
